Ingredients

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 teaspoon Ragin' Cajun y'ALL Purpose Seasoning
  • 1/4 cup mayonnaise
  • 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard
  • 4 burger buns
  • 4 slices cheddar or pepper jack cheese, optional
  • 1/3 cup drained Ragin' Cajun Candied Jalapeno Slices 12 oz
  • Lettuce, sliced tomato, or thinly sliced red onion, optional
  • Neutral cooking oil for the skillet, if needed

Method

How to make Cajun burgers

  1. Mix the mayonnaise and Dijon; refrigerate until serving.
  2. Divide beef into four portions and shape 3/4-inch patties with a center indentation.
  3. Season both sides with y'ALL Purpose.
  4. Heat a clean grill or heavy skillet over medium-high heat.
  5. Cook, flip once, and continue until every center reaches 160°F; insert the thermometer from the side of a thin patty.
  6. Add cheese during the final minute if using.
  7. Toast buns if desired.
  8. Assemble with sauce, cooked patty, candied slices, and optional vegetables; serve promptly.
Food-safety note Cook ground-beef patties to 160°F at the center with a food thermometer. Keep raw beef separate from cooked food. Reverify USDA guidance and obtain Acadian food-safety approval before publication.

Ground-beef safety

  • Wash hands before and after handling raw ground beef.
  • Keep raw beef and its plate or utensils separate from cooked food.
  • Cook every patty to 160°F at the center; do not use color alone as the doneness test.
  • Insert a thermometer from the side of a thin patty so the sensing area reaches the center.

Serve with

Cajun fries and dipping sauce, grilled corn, coleslaw, potato salad, or a green salad. Set out extra candied slices so each person can choose the topping amount.

Store and reheat

The current draft advises refrigerating cooked patties within 2 hours, or within 1 hour above 90°F; using them within 3 to 4 days; and reheating to 165°F. These directions require Acadian food-safety approval before publication.

Common questions

Can I cook the burgers in a skillet?

Yes. Use a heavy skillet over medium-high heat and a little neutral oil if the pan needs it. Cook each patty to 160°F at the center.

Can I use ground turkey or chicken?

Yes, but the flavor and cook time change. Ground poultry must reach 165°F at the center as measured with a food thermometer.

How can I make the burger milder?

Use fewer candied slices and add lettuce, tomato, cheese, or more creamy sauce. Put extra slices on the table instead of adding them all during assembly.
